What We Do

Personal & Professional Coaching

‘Coaching’ is a term that has become very popular in recent times. It is sometimes used interchangeably with mentoring, but it is fundamentally different. Coaching is defined as a “partnership with a ‘client’ in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspired them to maximise their personal and professional potential” – reference: International Coaching Federation website. Whereas mentoring is defined as “a relational process in which a mentor, who knows or has experienced something, transfers that something (resources of wisdom, information, experience, confidence, insight, relationship, status, etc.) to a mentoree, at an appropriate time and manner, so that it facilitates development or empowerment” – reference: Paul Stanley & J. Robert Clinton.

So how does it work? If you are interested in the potential of coaching, we would set up an initial meeting to determine if coaching is the best approach for you. If we agree this is the best way forward, we’d then agree an initial ‘coaching contract’, and arrange our first coaching session. At the end of each session we together assess your progress and make adjustments to the ‘coaching agreement’ as required.

Organisational Development

Khula Consulting specialises in supporting executive leaders working in the non-governmental/charity sector (known as the ‘third’ or ‘non-profit’ sector). The charity sector has developed substantially over the past 20 years, and as a result has needed to become more professional and accountable. Charities are often led by passionate;y driven and charismatic individuals (visionary leader) who have clear ideas about what needs to happen to bring about the social change they desire to see.  However, in order for these ideas to be translated into sustainable and transformative impact, the visionary leaders need to be able to develop the organisational framework to support the implementation of the programmes needed. This includes clear strategic design and strategic plan, acquiring the necessary programme and project management skills, marketing and fundraising, managing individuals and developing teamwork, organisational development.

Together with its professional coaching approach, Khula Consulting offers varies training and consultancy opportunities to support senior executive teams build and review their organisation’s effectiveness.

Church & Community Transformation

Khula Consulting has extensive experience working with community (CBOs) and faith-based (FBOs) organisations, including churches, in facilitating and being agents of change in their communities. The challenges of ethnic conflicts, the AIDS and Ebola pandemics, and struggle to end gender-based domestic and sexual violence can only be combatted by the full participation and engagement of CBOs and FBOs. For hundreds of years churches and mosques have been the main providers of health-care and education for most communities (in particular impoverished communities). It is vital the strategic partnerships with CBOs and FBOs are strengthened and they are appropriately up-skilled if we are to be able to see the healing and well-being of our communities.

Khula Consulting has gained experience working with CBOs and FBOs at both local grassroots level and with their governing bodies from across various parts of West, Central and Southern Africa, as well as the Balkans and Middle-East. Shula Consulting offers training and consulting services to CBOs and FBOs in a number of areas, including: peace-building & reconciliation, post-conflict reconstruction & development, sustainable livelihoods, children & youth at risk, community health care, restorative justice, and water & sanitation.
